Physics at a 100 TeV pp Collider: Standard Model Processes

Higgs pair production is a crucial phenomenological process in deciphering the nature of the TeV scale and the mechanism underlying electroweak symmetry breaking. At the Large Hadron Collider, this process is statistically limited. Pushing the energy frontier beyond the LHC's reach will create new opportunities to exploit the rich phenomenology at higher centre-of-mass energies and luminosities. In this work, we perform a comparative analysis of the hh + jet channel at a future 100 TeV hadron collider. We focus on the hh → bbbb and hh → bbτ + τ − channels and employ a range of analysis techniques to estimate the sensitivity potential that can be gained by including this jet-associated Higgs pair production to the list of sensitive collider processes in such an environment. In particular, we observe that hh → bbτ + τ − in the boosted regime exhibits a large sensitivity to the Higgs boson self-coupling and the Higgs selfcoupling could be constrained at the 8% level in this channel alone.

In the current LHC run, an accurate understanding of Standard Model processes is extremely important. Processes including electroweak gauge bosons serve as standard candles for SM measurements, and equally constitute important backgrounds for Beyond-the-Standard Model (BSM) searches. We present here the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD virtual contributions to W + W − +jet in an analytic format obtained through unitarity methods. We present results for the full process using the Monte Carlo event generator MCFM, and discuss total as well as differential cross-sections for the LHC with 14 TeV center-of-mass energy, as well as a future 100 TeV proton-proton machine.

This paper explores the physics reach of the proton-proton Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) and of the High-Energy LHC (HE-LHC) for searches of new particles produced in the s-channel and decaying to two high-energy leptons, jets (non-tops), tops or W/Z bosons. We discuss the expected discovery potential and exclusion limits for benchmark models predicting new massive particles that result in resonant structures in the invariant mass spectrum. We also present a detailed study of the HE-LHC potential to discriminate among different models, for a Z that could be discovered by the end of High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC).
