Physicochemical and photodegradation characteristics of hematite-biochar nanocomposite prepared from bamboo sawdust

Abstract: This work implicates the synthesis of biochar-hematite nanocomposite from bamboo sawdust and its photodegradation characteristic for remazol brilliant blue. The nanocomposite was prepared through a one-step pyrolysis process in a tubular furnace under a flow of nitrogen and impregnation using FeSO4.7H2O and FeCl3.6H2O. The physicochemical properties were characterized by x-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which confirmed that hematite was successfully identified on the surface of th… Show more

“…The -OH group is identified by the existence of a peak at a wave number of 3200-3700 cm -1 [4], while the existence of the C-H group is identified at a wave number of 1600-1530 cm -1 [4]. The band at 700-900 cm -1 indicates the existence of a C-O vibration [4]. The addition of hematite into biochar showed a change in the absorption peaks.…”

“…The co-precipitation method was used for HBC synthesis [4]. Distilled water (50 mL), FeCl3.6H2O (8.84 g), and FeSO4.7H2O (4.5 g) were mixed and agitated at 60 o C for 30 min.…”
