Physico-Chemical Characteristics of Rosmarinus officinalis L. Essential Oils Grown in Lam Dong Province, Vietnam

Abstract: Composition of rosemary essential oil largely depends on the geographical position of the cultivated plant and conditions of the extraction process. In this study, fresh rosemary leaves were used for extraction of essential oil by hydrodistillation and evaluation of chemical compositions and physico-chemical characteristics of the obtained oil were performed. The yield of essential oil was 1.0 %. The physico-chemical parameters showed specific gravity (0.8978 g/cm3), acid index (1.122 mg KOH/g), ester index (1… Show more

“…While other compounds were revealed in much lower quantities (<2%) ( Table 2 ). The percentage composition of alpha-pinene, eucalyptol and verbenone as major constituents aligned with the results of other similar studies ( Ngân et al., 2019 ; Omer et al., 2020 ). In addition, multiple recent studies have enumerated the benefits of essential oils of rosemary with regard to chemical composition, applications and biological characteristics ( Ban et al., 2016 ; Bajalan et al., 2017 ; González-Minero et al., 2020 ).…”

“…Studies aimed at quoting essential oils, determining physicochemical indices, and testing antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria have increased in recent years [1][2][3][4][5]. Vietnam has favorable tropical and natural conditions for the formation and development of plant species, in which the essential oil-containing plants are rich and diverse [6][7][8][9][10][11]. Besides, the Citrus variety of the Rutaceae family with a pleasant aroma, high limonene content has great functions in food and cosmetic applications.…”
