Abstract: Purpose Sugarcane vinasse is generated in large amounts and can be utilized to improve soil attributes, especially in areas degraded by burns. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of sugarcane vinasse on physico-chemical attributes of a Cambisol managed via annual burns. Methods Soil samples were collected from an annually burned area under pasture and used in an experiment in pots to evaluate the effects of dosages of vinasse (0, 18.8, 37.5, 56.3, 75.0, 112.5, and 150 ). The water-dispersi… Show more

“…Despite the changes on K + content, it probably was not enough to increase the dispersion of the clay fraction. This affirmation corroborates Melo et al (2018), testing doses of sugarcane vinasse in a Cambisol from Brazil, who observed that the increment of K + up to almost 5% of the cation exchange capacity was not enough to increase the water-dispersible clay content.…”

“…Some authors [23,26,29] affirm that contamination of groundwater and nutrients leaching is not significant below 300 m 3 ha -1 yr -1 . However, it depends on the characteristics of the soil, like ion CTC (Exchange Capacity), infiltration rate, storing capacity of nutrients, besides distance from water bodies [30].…”

“…Several authors have investigated technologies for vinasse treatment only based on technical and economic aspects without considering the environmental aspects quantified in the cash flow of the project. Many authors [30,48,49] address the environmental aspects of the best technological option but in a qualitative only way and considering only economic aspects for its analysis. This work needs additional studies of economic feasibility of these treatments considering the environmental aspects and others scenarios.…”

“…Observando os efeitos principais da vinhaça sobre os atributos químicos do solo, Melo et al (2018), constatou elevação no pH, onde esta modificação está relacionada com o ambiente reduzido imposto pela vinhaça devido à sua elevada demanda bioquímica de oxigênio. Outros efeitos nos solos, relacionados com os complexos de troca, como o aumento da saturação por potássio, da soma de bases, da capacidade de troca de cátions e do aumento nos teores de macro e micronutrientes (Fuess et al, 2017).…”
