“…In throwing performance, we found a higher ball velocity in the jump shot in the world‐class and top‐elite players compared with the elite players. Previous studies in female team handball showed similar results with differences in sprinting performance as well as ball velocity during a team handball throw in different performance levels . The present findings suggest that the ability for fast moving on the team handball court, including fast accelerations and decelerations, changes in directions, short sprints, team handball specific skills like tackling (in the test only mat roles and no players similar to competition), passing, catching, and throwing with a high ball velocity, is important physical determinant to become a world‐class player in adult female team handball.…”

“…Previous test studies have examined various players' general level of strength, sprint, throwing, and aerobic performance, and the present study may be the first study that enables a direct comparison of anaerobic and aerobic performance under on‐court testing conditions similar to team handball match‐play. The results clearly indicate that the world‐class players had the best anaerobic (defense and offense time, acceleration, and total fast‐break time) and aerobic (VO 2 peak) performance compared to not only elite, but also to top‐elite players.…”

“…Modern handball, although aiming at the polyvalence of the players, requires a specific body composition for a specific player's position on a team. Research has proven that there are differences in body composition of the players depending on their playing positions (Bojić et al, 2019;Weber, Wegner, & Wagner, 2018;Michalsik et al, 2013;Urban & Kandráĉ, 2013;Milanese et al, 2011;Ĉižmek, Ohnjec, Vuĉetić, & Gruić, 2010). It has been noticed that in the selection process the positions of goalkeepers and backs are given to the players who are more mature, with better anthropometric predispositions (the taller ones with longer extremities) and in better physical shape.…”
