“…Exercise has beneficial effects on epileptogenesis (Arida et al, 1998, 2007, 2010; Silva de Lacerda et al, 2007). Exercise treatment reduced brain susceptibility in the kindling or the pilocarpine model of epilepsy.…”

“…Melatonin is also modulated by physical activity (Carr et al., 1981). Considering that melatonin can exert an anticonvulsant action as demonstrated in animal and human studies and the positive effects of physical exercise on epilepsy, a subsequent study examined the influence of physical exercise program on amygdala kindling development in pinealectomized rats (Silva de Lacerda et al., 2007). As observed in a preliminary work evaluating the influence of exercise during the period of epileptogenesis (Arida et al., 1998), acceleration in the kindling development of pinealectomized animals was also reverted by physical exercise.…”

“…Thus, there are favorable reports considering that melatonin is modulated by exercise [73]. To our knowledge, the only study on this topic demonstrated that an exercise program was able to revert the effects of pinealectomy on the amygdala kindling development [74]. From this, the effects of the possible therapeutic use of melatonin associated with regular exercise to ameliorate control of seizures should be considered.…”
