Physical-chemical characterization of the textile dye Azo Ab52 degradation by corona plasma

Abstract: This work characterizes the degradation of the textile dye azo Acid Black 52 by measuring several physical and chemical parameters. A corona plasma was created at atmospheric pressure and applied on the liquid-air interface of water samples containing the dye. 1.0 mM of ferrous sulfate (FeSO4) was added to 1.0 mM dye solution, for a total volume of 250 mL. For each treatment, a number of parameters were quantified. These were voltage, current, temperature, loss of volume, pH, electrical conductivity, concentra… Show more

“…This analysis is necessary because the disappearance of dye colour alone cannot be used as a measure to determine the complete mineralization of the dyes. [51][52][53][54] Noxious and longlasting reaction intermediates were formed during the photoremoval of the dyes. Simultaneously, it was essential to calculate the degree of degradation of Rhodamine-B (RB) and Janus green (JG) during photo-removal using the Fe 2 O 3 /Cu 2 O photocatalyst.…”

“…An experimental system was designed and built to produce a Corona-type electric discharge on liquid samples with organic pollutants, where samples of textile dyes are treated by means of a cold plasma at atmospheric pressure [2,15]. The luminescent discharge is generated with a direct current power supply (HP Mod.…”

“…Different experimental systems have been built according to each specific purpose for each of the plasmas, all showing advantages among them, but most of the reactors are of pulsed corona discharge type, so they were taken as a reference for the determination of the efficiency in the relative energy (Malik et al, 2010). Various authors made efforts to make the technology of the treatment of wastewater have satisfactory results, and the production of plasmas applied to this type of processes has been studied in detail (Ghodbane et al, 2014;Gómez et al, 2017). A catalyst is a substance that changes the activation energy of a reaction, causing an increase in the reaction rate without it being consumed itself.…”
