Physical and chemical properties of isobutanol‐gasoline blends

Abstract: Blended fuels were obtained with isobutanol contents of 10,20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 vol % with pure gasoline fuel. The physical and chemical properties of isobutanolgasoline blends were investigated using test methods from standards and codes or calculation. No phase separation occurred in isobutanol-gasoline blends at specific temperatures, and isobutanol and gasoline could be blended successfully in every ratio volume. The blended fuel properties were determined, that is, density, low heating value… Show more

“…It is a feature of paramount importance for any liquid fuel, because it is closely related to the engine performance in terms of cold start, acceleration and power. Distillation is one of the most important quality indexes for evaluating the evaporation rate of liquid fuels at different temperatures; it is useful to determine the boiling range of a fuel and the content of light and heavy components (Li, Yu, Wang, & Wang, 2015). The vapor pressure is another important property used to measure the lightweight fuel vaporization trend in gasoline.…”

“…Tertbutanol, at low volumetric fractions, can be used to improve the knock behaviour of gasoline, but is not considered to be used as an alternative fuel at higher volumetric concentrations, due to its high melting point. Iso-butanol can increase the octane number of the gasoline in blends [7], it can also get lower brake specific fuel consumption and increase the power and thermal efficiency compared to methanol and ethanol blends [8].…”

“…The demand for clean renewable biofuel is increasing as new benchmarks are legislated amid increased pressure to reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels for energy . Because of rising fuel price and more stringent emission laws, a paradigm shift in diesel engine fuel technology is necessary to achieve the desired emission standards and high performance of the engine.…”

“…Because of rising fuel price and more stringent emission laws, a paradigm shift in diesel engine fuel technology is necessary to achieve the desired emission standards and high performance of the engine. In order to improve the emission characteristics of diesel engine fuel, many researchers have come up with a number of liquid and gaseous fuel alternatives. The gaseous fuel, by virtue of its nature, mixes easily with air to produce a homogeneous mixture, which is conducive to better combustion.…”
