Physical and Biological Properties of a High-Plasticity Tricalcium Silicate Cement

Abstract: Introduction Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) is a tricalcium-based silicate, dicalcium silicate matrix. Despite its good biologic properties, some clinicians still claim to have difficulties in handling MTA after its preparation due to its sandy consistency. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physicochemical properties and cytotoxicity of MTA Repair HP (Angelus, Londrina, PR, Brazil) compared with MTA Angelus (Angelus, Londrina, PR, Brazil). Materials and Method The properties assessed were part… Show more

“…Biodentine had a similar effect on dentin bridge formation to MTA (Table 3) [71,112,113]. In contrast to another study [46], a clinical trial in adults showed complete dentin bridge formation in 100% of Biodentine cases, compared to 11% and 56% in TheraCal®and ProRoot®MTA, respectively [114]. In terms of quality of induced dentin, MTA exceeded BD, although concerning completion of the dentin bridge, BD had better results.…”

“…Since then, MTA has been widely studied and, even today, it presents itself as a gold standard in comparison to the newest bioceramic cements. In addition, there are several studies that prove the clinical and radiographic success of treatments performed with MTA, in the most diverse types of procedures (Galarça, 2018).…”

“…The physical properties of the mixed aqueous materials may be altered by water-soluble polymers, which raise the viscosity of the mixture and thus may improve their fluidity and handling (48,49), the original formulation being notoriously difficult even noted by Schlenker (4).…”
