“…Photo-assisted PFM, an extension of PFM which measures the change of piezoresponse due to light illumination, can be used to probe the interaction between photons and the polarization of a material. For instance, it has been used to investigate optically induced polarization switching in the organic–inorganic lead halide system (Coll et al, 2015; Kim et al, 2015; Wang et al, 2017), BFO thin films (Yang & Alexe, 2018) and ferroelectric heterostructures (Li et al, 2018), as well as revealing the photostrictive behavior of gallium nitride (GaN)-based semiconductors with multiple quantum wells structure (Loo et al, 2021). Herein, we demonstrated that, owing to the electrostatic contribution to the photo-assisted PFM signal, results obtained through PFM imaging and spectroscopic modes provided conflicting interpretations.…”
