Photon cascade emission in SrAlF5:Pr

Abstract: The optical properties of SrAlF5:Pr3 + are studied. Emission measurements up to 1200 nm under blue-light excitation in the3P2 level reveal a large number of emissions all originating from the3P0 level and the1D2 level. Under vacuum ultraviolet excitation in the 4f15d1 bands, emission from the1S0 level, followed by emission from the3P0 level and the1D2 level takes place. This is known as the photon cascade emission process. The excitation spectrum of the1S0 emission was measured and was compared with the excita… Show more

“…7. The scheme was reconstructed using the method described in [8,9] and the experimental data obtained for undoped LiCaAlF 6 and LiSrAlF 6 crystals [10]. The bandgap of LiMAlF 6 (M ¼ Ca, Sr) is taken to be about $12 eV.…”

“…In this situation it is impossible to generate efficient quantum splitting process for the production of visible photons. The process of quantum splitting has been demonstrated in several fluorides [1][2][3][4][5][6] and in a number of oxide materials [7][8][9][10][11]. The status of this field has been reviewed in references [12][13][14].…”

“…The lower light yield of this was explained by essentially nonradiative recombination between Ce 4+ and an electron, interaction between the closely spaced excited Ce 3+ ions and a limited concentration quenching effect. Luminescence of the neighboring Pr 3+ rare earth ion was studied mainly due to its usage in up-conversion or photon cascade emission systems [17,18]. However, to our knowledge, detailed study of PrF 3 single crystal luminescence has not been published.…”
