Photoluminescence properties of Y2O3co-doped with Eu and Bi compounds as red-emitting phosphor for white LED

Abstract: Bismuth doped Y 2 O 3 : Eu was used as a red phosphor with a very high efficiency and an appropriate emission wavelength of around 310-400 nm. This red phosphor was synthesized by the solid state reaction which is normally used in the field of white LEDs. In this study, we synthesized Y 2 O 3 : Eu, Bi phosphors using a solid state reaction. We investigated the effect of the Eu 3+ and Bi 3+ concentrations and additive fluxes on the emission characteristics. The fabricated phosphors were investigated by analyzin… Show more

“…Bi 3+ can therefore easily replace the Y 3+ ion to form Bi 2 O 3 . Park et al [19] investigated the photoluminescence (PL) properties of Y 2 O 3 co-doped with Eu and Bi compounds as a red-emitting phosphor for white light emitting diodes. They concluded, while reporting on the XRD results, that the co-doping with Eu and Bi increased the lattice parameters of the phosphor.…”

“…Bi 3+ acts as a sensitizer of Eu 3+ through energy transfer from Bi 3+ to Eu 3+ in many systems such as YVO 4 :Bi 3+ ,Eu 3+ [6][7][8][9][10][11][12], Y 2 O 3 :Bi 3+ ,Eu 3+ [13][14][15][16] and so on. YVO 4 :Bi 3+ ,Eu 3+ under the excitation of near-UV-light emits red through the charge transfer (CT) transition from Bi 3+ 6s to V 5+ 3d, followed by the energy transfer to Eu 3+ [17,18].…”

“…The spectra of F -type centers are easily discolored by an optical light from 1 mm region and thermally. During last years the obtainment and investigation of micron dispersion of Y 2 O 3 with an europium impurity and the * corresponding author; e-mail: iryna.novosad@lnu.edu.ua effect of co-activators on Eu 3+ luminescence in Y 2 O 3 :Eu were given special attention [5][6][7][8].…”
