Photoluminescence and scintillation characteristics of Bi-loaded PVK-based plastic scintillators for the high counting-rate measurement of high-energy X-rays

Abstract: Bi-loaded PVK-based plastic scintillators doped with bis-MSB are applicable for high counting-rate measurement of high-energy X-rays. They showed a higher detection efficiency and light yield than EJ-256 under 67.41 keV X-ray irradiation.

“…99) PVKbased plastic scintillators loaded with triphenyl bismuth have been developed. 100,101) From the viewpoint of sensitization for X-rays and gamma rays, lead has also been used because of its high atomic number of 82. Pb-loaded plastic scintillators are commercially available as EJ-256 (equivalent to BC-452).…”

“…Plastic scintillators have been modified by using multiple combinations of polymers and fluorophores as per the applications. Various plastic scintillators have been developed utilizing different polymer bases such as polyvinyl toluene (PVT) 27 , polystyrene (PS) 28 , Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) 29 , poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) 30 , Polysixloxane 31 , Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) 32 and Others. Generally, plastic scintillator is fabricated by starting from a monomer in which the fluorophores are dissolved and subjected to heat cycles for polymerization to obtain solid scintillator.…”
