Photoinduced Reversible Structural Transformations in Free-Standing CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite Films

Abstract: In the pursuit to better understand the mechanisms of perovskite solar cells we performed Raman and photoluminescence measurements of free-standing CH3NH3PbI3 films, comparing dark with working conditions. The films, grown on a glass substrate and sealed by a thin glass coverslip, were measured subsequent to dark and white-light pretreatments. The extremely slow changes we observe in both the Raman and photoluminescence cannot be regarded as electronic processes, which are much faster. Thus, the most probable … Show more

“…56 In fact, the role of oxygen is supported by the fact that PL intensity decreases upon white illumination in N 2 environment. 55,55,57 PL intensity enhancement upon illumination in ambient conditions has been reported and tentatively explained by a catalytic reaction induced by oxygen in inorganic SrTiO 3 thin film perovskite. This work highlights how substrate influences not just the interfacial properties of perovskite devices but also bulk perovskite properties, fact with important implications on the PSC working mechanisms.…”

“…15 Furthermore, even though the MA is known to rotate rapidly at room temperature 16,17 , ferroelectric effects related to oriented MA domains under applied bias have been suggested. 15,18,19 The dynamic interplay between MA cation and the inorganic Pb-X cage is currently under scrutiny, 20,21 with several attempts to measure Raman active bands of CH 3 NH 3 PbX 3 recently reported [22][23][24][25] . Since the organic-inorganic interplay is governed by hydrogen bonding interactions between the NH 3 + group of the MA cation and the electronegative halide atoms 20,26 , detailed knowledge of the hydrogen bonding is necessary for a full understanding of the exceptional electronic properties of the material.…”
