Photodynamic therapy with light emitting fabrics: a review

Abstract: Photodynamic therapy is a powerful tool in the localized and selective treatment of dermatologic diseases, such as actinic keratosis, acne vulgaris, Bowen's disease and basal cell carcinoma. The success of photodynamic therapy is mainly attributed to the development of flexible light sources for homogenous and reproducible illumination during clinical studies. The essential requirement for this therapy includes, a suitable photosensitizer, presence of oxygen and a light of specific wavelength and intensity. Th… Show more

“…Triboelectric, piezoresistive, capacitive and resistance-types strain and pressure sensors have used for physical sensing/monitoring to advance the e-textile technology [ 51 , 52 , 123 , 127 , 135 ]. Restive-type heaters [ 136 , 137 ] and light-emitting fibers and fabrics have utilized for therapeutic applications [ 79 , 138 , 139 ]. Herein, we describe only selected devices/technology platform used in smart e-textiles but there are many other materials and devices are being used in the development of the e-textiles for several applications.…”
