Photodynamic therapy and nuclear imaging activities of zinc phthalocyanine‐integrated TiO2 nanoparticles in breast and cervical tumors

Abstract: In recent years, phthalocyanines (Pcs) have been widely used as photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy applications. Because of their strong absorptions in the near-infrared region (640-700 nm). The integration of phthalocyanine derivatives to a nanoparticle is expected to be efficient way to improve the activity of the photosensitizer on the targeted tissue. It is known that the integrated molecules not only show better accumulation on tumor tissue but also reduce toxicity in healthy tissues. In this study, … Show more

“…Yurt et al used in their study unsymmetrical monocarboxylic derivative of zinc(II) phthalocyanine (MCZnPc) and MCZnPc anchored onto TiO2 NPs -labeled with 131 I to assess their potential in therapy and diagnosis of selected cancers. MCZnPc and MCZnPc-TiO2 NPs were tested for their antitumor activity against mouse mammary carcinoma (EMT6) and human cervical adenocarcinoma (HeLa) cells [60]. After a three hour incubation period in the dark, the cell cultures with photosensitizers were irradiated with light at 684 nm wavelength.…”

“…Zinc (II) 9,10,16,17,23,24-hexa(4´-tert-butylphenoxy)-2-[2´-(4´´-carboxyphenyl)ethynyl] phthalocyaninato (2-)-N29, N30, N31,N32 ZnPc are shown in Fig. 2 and ZnPc integrated TiO 2 nanoparticles (ZnPc-TiO 2 ) were synthesized according to the previously reported method [37,38]. Both compounds were dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to a final concentration of 64 mg/ml and were stored in the dark at 4 °C before use.…”
