Photochemically reduced polyoxometalate assisted generation of silver and gold nanoparticles in composite films: a single step route

Abstract: A simple method to embed noble metal (Ag, Au) nanoparticles in organic-inorganic nanocomposite films by single step method is described. This is accomplished by the assistance of Keggin ions present in the composite film. The photochemically reduced composite film has served both as a reducing agent and host for the metal nanoparticles in a single process. The embedded metal nanoparticles in composites film have been characterized by UV-Visible, TEM, EDAX, XPS techniques. Particles of less than 20 nm were read… Show more

“…Figure 3d shows the two peaks at binding energies of 367.6 and 373.8 eV, which corresponded to Ag 3d5/2 and Ag 3d3/2 of metallic Ag 0 , respectively. The differences between the 4f7/2 and 4f5/2 peaks for gold nanocrystal (3.6 eV) and between the 3d5/2 and 3d3/2 peaks for silver nanocrystal (~6.0 eV) were of similar values of zero valent gold and silver as reported in the literature [30]. These results, in agreement with the results of the HRTEM analysis, suggest that both Au and Ag components were located in the shell region.…”

“…39,40 The positive shift of the binding energy may be due to the particle size or chemical and charge effects. 41,42 As shown in Fig. 1, the size of silver nanoparticles reduced by syzygium extract is located between that of the silver nanoparticles reduced by glucose solution and UV light.…”

“…This shi in binding energy towards a higher value is due to the binding of gold 45 nanoparticles to chitosan and also due to the particle size effect. 46 Thus, the binding of gold to chitosan via the NH 2 and OH groups is evident from the XPS analysis.…”
