“…The corresponding TEM (Figure 1(a1,b1,c1,d1)) image shows that materials exhibited a near-spherical in shape [6,9]. Furthermore, the SAED (Figure 1(a2,b2,c2,d2)) pattern obtained for TiO 2 and MONs and the observed ring patterns (brightness and intensity) indicating that the samples are polycrystalline in nature [9,41,42,43], in agreement with the XRD results (data published [6]). According to Maurya and Bhatia [44] discontinuous rings with spots indicate that the particles are made of rather bigger crystallites, this fact is particularly noticeable in T-Z5-M5 sample (Figure 1(d2)) [45,46].…”

“…The former is due to the contribution of the direct charge transition of O 2 − 2p→Fe 3+ 3d (UV absorption), and the latter originates from the indirect charge transition of Fe 3+ 3d→3d (visible absorption) [8–10]. The band-gap energy ( E bg ) value of the prepared α -Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles was derived from the relationship between the absorption coefficient and the incident photon energy of the α -Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles using Tauc's plot method [11, 12]. Consider α=A(hvEbg)nhv, where α is the absorption coefficient, E bg is the band-gap energy, and A is the absorption constant.…”

“…The calculated band gap energies for the allowed direct and indirect charge transitions for the Fe 2 O 3 and PtFe 2 O 3 are 2.10 eV and 2.12 eV, respectively (Table S1). Slightly higher band gap value of 2.12 eV obtained for the PtFe 2 O 3 compared to the Fe 2 O 3 indicates the quantum confinement of the nanoparticles .…”
