Photocatalyst activity indicating adhesive labels for use in the field

Abstract: The preparation and characterisation of a resazurin-based photocatalyst activity indicator label is described. The label is applied to a number of different TiO2-based, photocatalytic materials, including self-cleaning: glass, tile, paint and awning materials, as well as a thin, sol-gel film, produced in-house. In all cases, the label exhibited a blue to pink colour transition upon irradiation with UV light. In most cases, the time taken to bleach 90% of the red component of the digital image of the ink, ttb(9… Show more

“…Rz-ink and closely related formulations with other dyes have since been adopted as testing technique in many studies. Examples of Rz, Acid Violet 7 and Basic Blue 66-ink formulation as assessment techniques for a variety of PhMs are included in [7]; Methylene Blue (MB), 2,6-DiChloroIndoPhenol and Resorufin for self-cleaning glass in [8]; and NitroBlueTetrazolium (NBT) on cement-based materials and emulsion coatings (ref). Further details about Rz and NBT-ink testing are discussed below in section 2.3.1.…”
