“…For periodontal or endodontic purposes, aPDT has already proved safe and successful as an adjuvant therapy for eliminating specific pathogens [19][20][21]. Accordingly, a number of clinical trials have been performed to assess aPDT as a means of raising the predictability of periodontal or endodontic treatments [22][23][24][25][26][27]. However, little is known about the clinical suitability of aPDT in regard to caries lesions [8,10].…”

“…1 Of the most important pathogens causing periodontal disease, complex microorganisms such as Aggregatibacter Actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Treponema denticola, Tannerella forsythia bacteria can be noted. 2 Due to the fact that the main goal of periodontal treatments is to reduce microbial agents, common treatments such as the mechanical debridement (the use of ultrasonic equipment and manually) as well as the use of topical or systemic antibiotics are considered as the main therapeutic measures in the treatment of chronic periodontitis.…”

“…Em alguns estudos verificou-se que a PDT proporcionou resultados clínicos significativos, reduzindo tanto o sangramento à sondagem 26 , como a profundidade de sondagem 27 . Na pesquisa de Moreira et al 28 , além dos benefícios obtidos em relação aos aspectos mencionados anteriormente, verificouse também ganho de inserção clínica nos pacientes analisados.…”
