Photo-assisted bio-fabrication of silver nanoparticles using Annona muricata leaf extract: exploring the antioxidant, anti-diabetic, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic activities

Abstract: Green synthesis of metal nanoparticles is reputed to have a robust range of biomedical applications. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) bio-fabricated using aqueous leaf extract of Annona muricata were characterized and evaluated for in-vitro antioxidant, lipid peroxidation inhibition, anti-diabetic and antimicrobial activities as well as cytotoxicity in human keratinocyte cells (HaCaT).The extract induced colour change of silver salt solution which absorbed at 420 nm and confirmed the formation of AgNPs. FTIR showe… Show more

“…When AgNPs’ concentration exceed 30 μg/mL or 10 μg/mL, it significantly inhibit HeLa and MCF-7 tumor cell growth respectively, showed good antiproliferative activity. There are some studies have proved that AgNPs have antiproliferative properties 44 – 46 . Due to their surface charges and sizes, the mechanism of antiproliferative activity mainly focuses on the following points: (1) inducing oxidative stress; (2) damaging DNA; (3) damaging mitochondria; (4) activating immune system; (5) inducing cell cycle arrest; (6) activating apoptosis.…”

“… 62 Antioxidants are vital molecules required to neutralize the generation of excessive free radicals in an aerobic organism and subsequently protect the body against prompted oxidative stress-related ailments. 55 , 63 The antioxidant potential of the synthesized AgNPs has been stated to have a relative advantage over the traditional antioxidant delivery system in terms of the targeted and controlled delivery, elevated bioavailability, and condensed protection of antioxidant agents. 55 , 64
