“…30 Phlebotomus perfiliewi perfiliewi , the sister subspecies of P. perfeliewi transcaucasicus , has been identified as a vector of VL/CL caused by L. infantum in Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Algeria. [31][32][33][34] In our study, we also found Leishmania spp. in P. kandelaki (0.06%) and P. ( Adlerius ) spp.…”

“…In these areas, P. (L.) longicuspis Nitzulescu 1930, the only Larroussius present, could be the vector of L. infantum. P. perfiliewi, proven vector in Algeria (Izri & Belazzoug 1993), is scarce in the South East of France (Izri et al 1994) and more abundant on the Adriatic coast in Italy (Corradetti 1960). P. (Pa.) sergenti Parrot 1917 was found infected by L. tropica in the semiarid belt in Morocco , and so was shown to be a vector of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in this country.…”

“…In CLI sites, specimens of subgenus Larroussius represented almost the totality of sandflies caught (95 %). In Jmila, a focus located in the humid bioclimatic zone, P. perfiliewi the proven vector of CLI in Algeria and Italy, was the dominant species (Tables IIa and IIb) (Izri & Belazzoug, 1993;Maroli et al, 1988). However, in Aïn Somra and Nchem located in the subhumid and the semi-arid bioclimatic stages P. perfiliewi was rare.…”
