“…Many varieties of Phureja are heterozygous 2 of 32 diploids, but for breeding purposes, the generation of haploid lines was often followed by homozygous double monoploids (DMs) [18]. Comparison of Phureja haploid lines with cognate DM showed considerable similarity in most phenotypic traits (number and size of flowers and number of tubers) in each pair, although the main organs in DM were somewhat larger [19]. The tubers in DM R44 are strongly elongated spindle-shaped, although the commercial Phureja cultivars have traditional rounded tubers.…”
