Phenotypic Assessment of Liver-Derived Cell Cultures during in vitro Expansion

Abstract: Background: Liver cells represent an attractive source of cells for autologous regenerative medicine. The present study assesses the liver cells’ stability during in vitro expansion, as a prerequisite for therapeutic use. Results: The human liver cell cultures in this study were propagated efficiently in vitro for at least 12 passages. No significant changes in morphology, intracellular ultrastructures and characteristic markers expression were found during in vitro expansion of cells from all analyzed donors.… Show more

“…Encephaloceles are extracranial hernias of the meninges and/or brain resulting from birth abnormalities related to the cranium. With crying or straining, there is pulsation and an expansion of the mass due to their intracranial connection [6]. It is improbable that our patient has encephaloceles because the mass did not exhibit pulsation and expansion when the patient cried or strained, nor did it reveal any developmental abnormalities or intracranial connections on NCCT.…”

“…Liver tissues were used with the approval of the Institutional Review Boards of Sheba Medical Center and Fundeni Clinical Institute, after obtaining informed consent of the donors or of legal representatives. Tissue processing, isolation, and the maintenance of cell cultures were previously described [ 13 ]. Hepatic wedges of 1.5–2 g were used for generating adherent cultures of liver cells.…”
