Pharmacological Principles Used in Patient Monitoring with Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract: This study assessed the medication used in type 2 diabetes treatment, depending on the glycaemia level and set out the oral anti-diabetics which are recommended, in three study stages: admission, hospitalization and discharge. Eighty patients were selected and diagnosed with diabetes mellitus 2 type, who were registered in the diabetes and nutrition diseases department within Sf. Apostol Andrei Galati Hospital. They were subjected to a series of laboratory tests: blood count, glycosylated haemoglobin, glyca… Show more

“…The metabolism of all major biomolecules is affected in diabetic ketoacidosis: carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolic pathways are disturbed. Medication of diabetic subjects should always been adapted to the current needs of the patients [12]. Acidosis contributes to hyperpotassemia, administration of glucose and insulin lowers the level of potassium [9].…”

“…Biguanides and related compounds have remained an important area of research, especially for their wide applications, due to their antibacterial, antifungal, antimalarial, hypoglycemic or antitumor activities [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. Biguanides have also a remarkable coordination capability to various metal ions and the resulting complexes have often higher biological activity than ligands [9][10][11].…”

“…Biguanides are compounds exhibiting important biological properties, e.g. antibacterial, antifungal, hypoglycaemic, antimalaric and antitumor activity [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. Many of the complex combinations in which the ligand is part of this class of compounds have biological properties, which explains the particular interest in their study.…”
