pH Responsive Carboxymethyl Chitosan/Poly(amidoamine) Molecular Gate Membrane for CO2/N2 Separation

Abstract: Efficient carbon dioxide separation is an emerging field of interest in the era of energy scarcity and environmental calamity. The present study focuses on the versatile aspects of carboxymethyl chitosan and dendrimer in terms of CO2 separation. A comprehensive study has been accomplished to inspect the physicochemical properties of the prepared membrane. The mixed gas (CO2/N2) separation performances have been measured varying the temperature (60–110 °C) and sweep/feedwater flow ratio (0.33–3). The blend memb… Show more

“…Figure 2b is the zoomed graph of infrared spectra at 3100− 4000 cm −1 shown in Figure 2a. For the spectra of the TMC-PEA/PDMS/PSF membrane, the peak at 3500 cm −1 is attributed to the N−H stretching vibration of residual primary amine, 18 which has a redshift to 3492 cm −1 in the TMC-PEA(AgNO 3 )/PDMS/PSF membrane, indicating the coordination of the primary amine and Ag + . 19 3.1.2.…”

“…CO 2 dissolved in water will change the pH value, [13] and pH has been reported to be an important factor for the CO 2 / N 2 separation membrane. [14] To further confirm the responsive mechanism in the solution, we studied the effects of CO 2 on surface tensions and pHs of the AO-D-OA solutions (Figure 2e). And we further explored the effects of N 2 and the temperature on the AO-D-OA solution + CO 2 (Figure 2f and Figure S3c).…”
