“…As mentioned above, numerous published detrital zircon data demonstrate that the source of the Upper Carboniferous Benxi Formation (Cai et al, ; Q. F. Wang et al, ; W. Y. Zhou, Jiao, et al, ) and Lower Permian Taiyuan Formation (D. B. Yang et al, ; Zhu et al, ) within the southern NCC was derived from the NQB, indicating that the NQB was uplifted during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian. However, the source region changed dramatically as a result of the intense uplift along the northern margin of the NCC since the depositional stage of the Lower Permian Shanxi Formation (W. Y. Zhou, Jiao, et al, ; Zhu et al, ).…”

“…The marine sedimentary pattern during the Middle Ordovician and the continental sedimentary pattern during the late Carboniferous in the NCC has been well studied . However, there has been little investigation of and no consensus regarding the paleogeomorphology that developed during the 120 Myr hiatus from the end of the Ordovician.…”

“…An extended and widespread hiatus lasting for up to 120 Myr during the Middle Ordovician to early Carboniferous in the North China Craton (NCC) corresponded to an important geological event, that is, Caledonian Movement, which led to a change from marine to transitional facies and eventually terrestrial facies. The Ordos Basin in the southwestern NCC recorded this process and therefore provides an opportunity to investigate the regional differential uplift pattern at that time, during which the extensive paleokarst unconformity and its paleogeomorphology had profound influences on the paleogeography and diagenesis of the corresponding strata . On the one hand, extensive and long‐term meteoric water karstification transformed the Ordovician Majiagou Formation carbonate rocks, contributing to the formation of the Jingbian gas field in the central part of the basin .…”
