Pesticide residues in cereal crop grains in Poland in 2013

Abstract: This paper presents the results of the audit on pesticide residues in cereal grains throughout Poland in 2013. The number of all samples of cereal grains was 380. Altogether 292 active substances of plant protection products were checked in the audit. Qualitative and quantative analyses were done according to Polish Standard PN-EN 15562:2008, using the LC-MS/MS technique. The methods (QuEChERS) is based on extraction of residues of plant protection products from a sample using acetonitrile. In the samples anal… Show more

“…Heavy metals are among the most harmful environmental pollutants and because of that many publications are devoted to their effects on plants and soil in the areas close to main roads and motorways (Van Bohemen and Van Malinowska et al, 2015). Yet, not much research has been done to study soil and plant contamination around agricultural fields.…”

“…The other two herb species P. lanceolata L. and E. arvense contained residues of two active substances each, diphenylamine and tebuconazole, both being herbicides, as well as tebuconazole and chlorpyrifos-ethyl, which are insecticides. Malinowska et al ( 2015 ) report that tebuconazole was frequently found in cereal grains in 2013. Plants containing more than one residue are exceptionally toxic to humans (Wang et al 2008 ).…”

“…The presence of herbicides may adversely affect human and animal health due to bioaccumulation of residues in crop produce . The results of the audit on pesticide residues in cereal grains throughout Poland in 2013 shows that 34% of samples of cereal grains contained such residues but below the maximum allowed residue limit, 3% contained residues over the maximum allowed limit, and 1% of the samples contained illegal substances in the samples analyzed . In contrast, in Kazakhstan, 8.75% of cereal grains contained pesticides above maximum allowed residue levels .…”
