Pervious Concrete: Mix Design, Properties and Applications

Abstract: Current climatic changes are occurring due to various human and industrial activities. In particular, the effects of urbanisation and growing threat of global warming have likely caused increasing precipitation in many geographic regions. For many years, portland cement pervious concrete (PCPC) has been making an important contribution, as a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS), on improving environmental conditions. This type of porous concrete can help minimizing flooding risks, recharging ground water, … Show more

“…It was happened because the void inside fresh concrete mixture with a bigger density was filled by cement paste and aggregate. This result strengthened previous test results which were explained by Sonebi [22] and created a fine potency to use the fresh density as a reference to set the desired porous concrete void content on the field. c. Based on Figure 13 and Figure 14, there were strong correlation between fresh density and void content against compressive strength at the age of 28-days.…”

“…Porous concrete is a type of concrete containing interconnected pores (usually air void content is from 5 to 25% by volume) with typical water permeability rate of ≥200 L/min/m 2 (Sonebi et al 2016;Kováč, Sičáková 2018;Tennis et al 2004). Maximum aggregate size of wearing layer porous concrete should be 8 mm or less (Kováč, Sičáková 2018;Hendrikx 1998).…”

“…As it is known, pervious concrete allows water infiltration. This automatically will reduce the surface runoff and peak flows [6] and eventually improves water quality by reducing the number of pollutants and microbial degradation before the infiltrated water reaches the sub-surface layers [22]. Not to mention, groundwater would be able to be recharged and replenished as well [32].…”
