Perturbative QCD correlations in multi-parton collisions

Abstract: We examine the role played in double-parton interactions (DPI) by the parton-parton correlations originating from perturbative QCD parton splittings. Also presented are the results of the numerical analysis of the integrated DPI cross sections at Tevatron and LHC energies. To obtain the numerical results the knowledge of the single-parton GPDs gained by the HERA experiments was used to construct the non-perturbative input for generalized double-parton distributions. The perturbative two-parton correlations ind… Show more

“…[40], only the homogeneus part of dPDFs evolution is implemented, for the moment being, in our scheme. According to some studies, the inhomogeneus part could play some role in this phenomenology [35,43]; its analysis is beyond the scope of the present paper.…”

“…The cross section is computed using the NNLO W AE production cross section and an effective multiparton interaction cross section, σ eff ¼ 15 mb, measured by ATLAS using Wjj production [92]. An uncertainty of 60% is assigned to the value of σ eff -and, correspondingly, to the DPI yields-using an estimate of σ eff ≈ 24 mb for WW production [93]. While these estimates rely on theoretical assumptions, an increase of the DPI cross section by a factor of 10 only increases the measured μ by 1%.…”

“…It should be noticed that dPDFs, calculated in momentum space, describe a system where two partons have a relative transverse momentum (± k ⊥ ). This unbalance physically arises since the difference of parton transverse momenta is not conserved between the amplitude and its complex conjugate [34,35]. Due to this unbalance, the dPDFs are not densities in this representation and they can not be interpreted as probabilistic distributions.…”
