Wheat productivity is compromised by the number of diseases that affect it. The diseases control is basically effected by the use of fungicides, however, biological control has become important due especially to the demand for foods free of chemical compounds. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of yeasts in reducing diseases through the treatment of wheat seeds and the spraying of plants in the field. The tests were carried out in the field and laboratory, with the yeasts Candida albicans, Cryptococcus laurentii, Pichia guilliermondii, Rhodotorula glutinis, Zygoascus hellenicus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae compared with fungicide (carbendazim) and control with water. In the laboratory, seed health, germination, germination speed index, cold test and accelerated aging were analyzed. In the field, seed treatment and aerial application were carried out when the flag leaf was emitted and the occurrence of diseases, chlorophyll content, production components, productivity and production quality was evaluated. For the variables of production and quality of the wheat in field, the yeast Z. hellenicus was efficient for productivity resembling the fungicide. For the severity of diseases in field, parameters related to germination and seed health, yeasts were not efficient.

RESUMONos últimos 30 anos tem-se observado, por parte da sociedade, uma maior preocupação com o uso de agrotóxicos na agricultura. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa tem buscado incansavelmente produtos alternativos, que sejam mais eficientes, baratos e ambientalmente seguros. Dentre as alternativas buscadas, o uso de extratos de plantas tem se mostrado promissor. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo testar 48 extratos aquosos e alcoólicos de 18 variedades de pimentas do gênero Capsicum obtidos a partir de sementes, folhas e frutos pelo método de maceração para o controle na inibição de germinação de Hemileia vastatrix e crescimento micelial dos fungos Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, Alternaria sp., Fusarium sp. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides e Phomopsis. Destes, o extrato aquoso, obtido de sementes de Capsicum chinense foi o mais eficiente, controlando todos os fitopatógenos desafiantes, mostrando que esses extratos possuem compostos bioativos possíveis de controlar fungos fitopatogênicos. In this sense, the researchers has been relentlessly pursuing alternative products that are more efficient, cheap and environmentally safe. In this context, products used in alternative management against plant-parasitic nematodes are being marketed. This study evaluated the efficacy of the products HYT-C (chitin) and HYT-D (chitosan) in the control of M. incognita and M. javanica. The experiment was conducted by applying the products at tomato seedlings transplanting, by foliar spray or soil amendment, previously infested or not with M. javanica or M. incognita. The experimental design was completely randomized (DIC) in a factorial 7 x 3 (combination of products x root-knot nematodes), with ten replications. Evaluations were done after 60 days, determining the reproduction rate, number of eggs, juveniles and adults per gram of fresh root, shoot height (cm), root length (cm), fresh and dry root and shoot mass (g), population of chitinolytic organisms in the soil (UFC g -1 soil) and the activity of chitinase enzyme in the leaves. Chitin added to the soil increased length and fresh root mass in plants inoculated with M. incognita. When combined with foliar chitosan, it also increased plant shoot length. The application of chitin to soil associated with leaf spraying of chitosan, reduced reproduction factor and population of M. javanica per root gram. No significant results were obtained for M. incognita. Chitin in the soil increased the population of soil chitinolytic microorganisms. The application of soil chitin, foliar chitosan and a combination of both, increased the activity of the enzyme chitinase in the leaves four days after application, regardless of nematode inoculated.
