Personal values and relational models

Abstract: In this study, the comprehensive value research by Schwartz (e.g. 1992) was linked to Fiske's relational models theory (RMT, e.g. Fiske, 1991). A sample of 297 people answered the personal values questionnaire (PVQ), the modes of relationship questionnaire (MORQ) and the relationship profile scale (RPS) in a web‐based online survey. As hypothesized, the set of 10 values correlated in a systematic manner—according to the circular structure of personal value systems—with both trait‐like construal of and motivati… Show more

“…In line with this, the self-reported importance of having communal sharing relations correlates moderately (.34) with the average communal sharing score for a sample of relations [39]. However, the fact that communal sharing in Study 3 was influenced by the benefit manipulation shows that situational cues also determine which model is applied, not only inter-individual differences.…”

“…A1, Kruskal stress = 0.190, and squared correlation (RSQ) = 0.721). Low stress and high RSQ values indicate better fit (Biber et al ., 2008). These values dimensions support the universal structure of values (Schwartz and Bilsky, 1987; Schwartz, 1992, 1994; Bilsky, 2009).…”

“…Market Pricing relationships are oriented to socially meaningful rates such as prices, wages, or cost-benefit analyses (Fiske, 2000). The theory has received extensive support in diverse areas (e.g., Biber, Hupfeld, & Meier, 2008;Giessner & van Quaquebeke, 2010;Thomsen, Sidanius, & Fiske, 2007;Whitehead, 2002).…”
