Peroxide route to the synthesis of ultrafine CeO2-Fe2O3 nanocomposite via successive ionic layer deposition

Abstract: An ultrafine α-CeO 2 –α-Fe 2 O 3 nanocomposite was prepared from the ultradispersed nanoparticles of cerium (IV) and iron (III) amorphous hydroxides heat-treated at 600 °С and 900 °С in the air. The initial composites were obtained by the successive ionic layer deposition (SILD) method. According to scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), the cerium/iron ratio in the … Show more

“…In addition, the intense absorption band at 1360 cm −1 is clearly visible, which corresponds to the vibrations of the C-O bond in the carbonate group. It's associated with the sorption of CO 2 from the air by the developed surface of the samples [34][35][36][37][38][39][40]. The absorption bands of the Zn-O and Fe-O bonds in the wavenumber region of 300-600 cm −1 cannot be identified because of their diffuse shape [36].…”

“…Automation of parameters allows to adjust the thickness of the electrocatalyst films, the selection of the composition and morphology. This method can be easily scalable for the synthesis of electrocatalytic materials at a standard temperature with simple hardware and the use of low-cost reagents [32][33][34][35][36][37][38].…”

“…The strong and broad absorption band at around 3300 cm −1 and a sharp peak at 3571 cm −1 is attributed to the stretching mode of -OH groups, which indicates the presence of hydroxyls in the free water and in the copper hydroxides, correspondently. The bands at 913, 1358, and 1561 cm −1 are attributed to the bending mode of H 2 O and CO 2 coordinated to metal ions [34] that is the result of adsorption of these substances by the developed surface of the hydroxide obtained. Three intense bands at 683, 610, and 512 cm −1 are attributed to Cu-O vibrations and additionally confirm the presence of copper hydroxide.…”
