In this systematic umbrella review we aggregate the current knowledge of how virtual and augmented reality technologies are applicable to and impact remote learning in higher education; specifically, how they impact such learning outcomes as performance and engagement in all stages of higher education from course preparation to student evaluation and grading. This review was done as part of a state wide research effort of Latvia, to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and specifically to provide a framework for a technological transformation of education in this context. In this work we search the Scopus and Web of Science databases for articles describing the use of virtual and/or augmented reality technologies in remote learning for higher education and their impact on learning outcomes. We identified 68 articles from which, after multiple screening and eligibility phases, nine review articles were left for extraction phase in which 30 structural elements with corresponding interventions and measured effects were extracted. Of these, 24 interventions had a measured effect on student performance (11 positive, seven negative, six no impact) and six interventions had a measured effect on student engagement (all six positive).

Efetividade de vídeo educativo sobre punção venosa periférica para acadêmicos de enfermagem lusófonos

Objetivo: avaliar efetividade de vídeo educativo no conhecimento de acadêmicos de enfermagem lusófonos acerca da punção venosa periférica. Método: estudo quase-experimental, do tipo antes e depois, desenvolvido com 85 acadêmicos de enfermagem, com pré e pós testes realizados a partir de questionário validado composto por 20 questões acerca do conhecimento sobre punção venosa. Resultados: houve melhora significante (p<0,005) nos acertos de sete questões referentes as melhores veias para punção, necessidade de inspeção e palpação, antissepsia em movimentos circulares, posicionamento do torniquete, indicação do scalp, tempo de permanência de dispositivo flexível e complicações do procedimento. No pré-teste, a mediana de acertos de 15 (Intervalo interquartílico=17), enquanto no pós-teste a mediana de acertos foi de 16 (Intervalo interquartílico=17), p=0,000. Conclusão: o vídeo educativo apresenta-se como tecnologia educacional efetiva para auxiliar no ensino da enfermagem sobre a PVP.

Objective: to develop and validate the first immersive virtual reality simulation addressing vacuum blood collection in adult patients - VIDA-Nursing v1.0. Method: methodological study to validate 14 steps of the vacuum blood collection procedure in adults, designed to develop the immersive virtual reality simulator VIDA-Nursing v1.0. It was assessed by 15 health workers and 15 nursing undergraduate students in terms of visual, interactive, movement simulation reality, teaching and user-friendly aspects. Results: the workers considered 79.6% of the items to be valid, while the students considered 66.7% of the items valid; most of the demands can be implemented in the system by improving future versions. Conclusion: the simulator was considered a promising and innovative tool to teach vacuum blood collection in adults as it can be combined with other resources currently used to introduce this topic and technique in the education of undergraduate nursing students.
