“…Cesarean births seem to have higher risks of neonatal injury as reported by Cai 53. And repeated cesareans were associated with higher hysterectomy 55. However, the associations of cesarean section with other clinical outcomes were not profound; for example, overactive bladder, lower urinary tract storage symptoms, incontinence, vertical transmission of Chlamydia trachomatis , intraventricular hemorrhage in preterm babies, intrapartum fetal death, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, and low neonatal Apgar scores.…”

“…15,29,30 One study that did not find an association with hysterectomy may have been underpowered, as they only had two cases of abruption among the hysterectomy group, but it was unclear how many cases of abruption presented in the overall study population. 31 We classify cesarean delivery, relaparotomy, and hysterectomy as obstetric morbidities, but it is important to note that cesarean delivery is often necessary in the setting of placental abruption to limit further oxygen deprivation to the fetus; to reduce blood loss for the mother; and, in extreme cases, to prevent the death of the fetus, the mother, or both. 2 Similarly, relaparotomy and hysterectomy are often necessary and life-saving measures when they are performed.…”
