Periosteal Ewing sarcoma.

Abstract: PES differs from the more common medullary and soft-tissue Ewing sarcomas in location, marked male predominance, and lack of presenting metastases. Except for the absence of matrix calcifications, PES resembles other periosteal sarcomas in imaging characteristics and a less aggressive clinical course.

“…46 Rare reports of cortical saucerization, soft tissue calcification, vertebra plana, and honeycombing have been described. 30,47,48 The lack of mineralized matrix within the soft tissue component and the propensity for diaphyseal location help to differentiate these lesions from osteosaroma. 49 Figure 11.…”

“…Periosteal Ewing's sarcomas may produce periosteal elevation or cortical saucerization. A MR study will confirm the initial absence of medullary involvement as in our case [8]. Fatty tumors have been excluded from the differential diagnosis.…”
