Periodic frequencies of the cycles in 2 × 2 games: evidence from experimental economics

Abstract: Abstract. Evolutionary dynamics provides an iconic relationship-the periodic frequency of a game is determined by the payoff matrix of the game. This paper reports the first experimental evidence to demonstrate this relationship. Evidence comes from two populations randomly-matched 2 × 2 games with 12 different payoff matrix parameters. The directions, frequencies and changes in the radius of the cycles are measured definitively. The main finding is that the observed periodic frequencies of the persistent cycl… Show more

“…The Boltzmann distribution itself implies several general relationships among the first and second partial derivatives of the thermodynamic potentials [125,133,134] or the partition function as illustrated by Eq. (74). Examples are the Gibbs-Duhem relations and the Gibbs' phase rule.…”

“…Similar endless races can be observed in social systems between buyers and sellers [27], property owners and criminals [28], males and females [29,30], or conformists and rebels [31]. The consideration of an evolutionary multi-agent system on network with this type of interactions prescribes two kinds of players distributed on bipartite graphs or lattices [32].…”

“…Another important point is "time" are served as controlled variable in their experiments. (3) The third are the report from Xu, Wang and Wang (2012) [32]. In two-population random-matched 2×2 games with 12 different payoff-matrix parameters [25], the experimental frequencies is found to be linear positive related to the theoretical frequencies significant (>5σ).…”
