“…In fact, compared with an initial investment (estimated in about €150,000), the modest benefits obtained on the reduction of MV/LV transformer losses are completely overcome by losses of the storage system due to auxiliary consumptions and charge/discharge efficiency (see Table 2 Case 3). Similar considerations about storage losses may be found for other projects involving NaS batteries [37], as well as for projects involving other battery types, for instance Li‐ion batteries [38]. Such results suggest that a single, large size BESS is not suitable to the optimal operation of an LV distribution network, especially due to economic reasons, and address to evaluate the effectiveness of small size BESSs, distributed through an LV network, in further studies.…”

“…In addition to the modeling studies, there are, to the best of our knowledge, only a few publications with results from field studies. Consiglio et al [20] reported on the site acceptance test of a 0.5 MW system, Koller et al [21] reported on the impact of different applications on a 1 MW system, Bila et al [22] showcased initial performance of a grid connected household BESS. Some studies were more focused on field usage analysis.…”

“…Another work which is also worth focusing on is research conducted by Koller et al [31], where an electrochemical storage with similar output parameters and power value has been installed in a building's load circuit, enabling frequency control, peak shaving, and the possibility of operating the storage in an island mode with cooperating diesel motors. Moreover, similar to Consiglio et al [32], the efficiency of the large battery storage facility was determined based on actual measurements. In contrast to Koller et al [31], the BES system examined in this paper is considered in terms of maximizing profits from the sale of electricity from a solar power plant while Hemmati and Saboori [30] focus on ensuring the reliability, power quality of the customer, and shaping the load curve.…”
