Performance measurement of vehicle Crash Imminent Braking systems

Abstract: As active safety systems have been introduced to passenger vehicles, there is an immediate need to develop a standardized testing protocol and scoring mechanism which enables an objective comparison between the performance of active safety systems implemented across various vehicle platforms. This project proposes a methodology for the establishment of such standards to evaluate and compare the performance of Crash Imminent Braking (CIB) systems. The proposed scoring mechanism is implemented based on track tes… Show more

“…We have proposed a performance evaluation method for CIB braking in [15]. In this paper, we are trying to enhance that method by including the performance evaluation of the CIB warning and hence provide a performance evaluation method for the entire CIB system.…”

“…In our previous study [15], we proposed to use percentage kinetic energy reduction (%KER, to be explained in Section 3) to measure the effectiveness of CIB braking. Since our goal is to create a total CIB system performance score, we will map the CIB advanced warning time to %KER score so that we can combine CIB warning score with the CIB braking score which is also in the unit of %KER.…”
