Performance, Manifestation of Heterosis and Combining Ability for Growth, Productivity and Fruit Quality of Indeterminate Tomato

Abstract: Six parental lines of indeterminate tomato were used in half diallel model to study performance, degree of heterosis and combining ability. This study was conducted at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Environmental Agriculture Sciences, Arish University during two successive seasons of 2018/2019 and 2019/2020. Results revealed that the parental lines IRS-43-2, VR-6 and VL-5-4 exhibited the best values for most studied characters, however the cross combinations IRS-43-2 x VR-6, IR-44-2 x VR-6 and VR-6 x VL-5-4 w… Show more

“…Out of 45 crosses, hybrids that exhibited maximum total fruit yield per plant (kg) were P 3 X P 4 (3.33) followed by P 1 X P 3 (3.21) while cross P 2 X P 9 (2.17) took minimum total fruit yield per plant (kg). Similar finding suggested by Gautuam et al and Ibrahim et al, [12,13].…”

“…These results suggest that both additive and dominant gene effects were significant for tomato dominance variance, which was higher than the additive variance for HMs tolerance [ 46 ]. Therefore, hybrid development may be effective for metals tolerance using males and females in the next generations, and progeny testing may be necessary for hybrid development [ 47 ]. Metal tolerance was controlled by dominant gene action, indicating that hybrid production is the best way to use the existing variability for this trait [ 39 ].…”
