Performance inheritance and combining ability of spring barley accessions

Abstract: Purpose and objectives. To establish the gene interaction types in the performance inheritance, to evaluate the combining abilities and effects of genes for this trait in spring barley accessions. Materials and methods. We investigated 75 F1 spring barley hybrid combinations derived from crossing 25 female forms with three male ones (chaffy and naked). Crossing was conducted in accordance with topcross design. F1 seeds and parents were sown with a cassette breeding planter SKS-6A. Grain pea was the forec… Show more

“…There are a number of publications that reported about estimation of combining ability and gene action for different traits in spring (Kumari et al, 2020;Darabad et al, 2021a) and winter (Ciulca et al, 2015;Bernhard et al, 2017) barley. There are articles dedicated to study of grain yield and its components in barley under relatively normal (Panwar & Sharma, 2019;Katiyar et al, 2021;Zymogliad et al, 2021) and stress condition, such as drought (Sultan et al, 2016), salinity (Mansour et al, 2016), nitrogen (Abdel-Moneam & Leilah, 2018), as well as assesment of genetic control of the "seedlings-earing" interphase period (Vashchenko & Shevchenko, 2021). There is also a study of combing ability in six-rowed barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) (Lal et al, 2018).…”

“…Beil, R.E. Atkins (according to Zymogliad et al, 2021): partial negative dominance -1≤hp<-0.5, partial positive dominance +0.5<hp ≤+1, positive over-dominance hp>+1, intermediate inheritance -0.5≤hp≤0.5, negative over-dominance (depression) hp<-1. The reliability of the difference between the average values of indicators in parent forms and hybrids of the first generation was determined using variance analysis.…”
