<p class="Els-Abstract-text"><span lang="EN-US">Besides the economic impact and loss of jobs and revenues, COVID-19 have a great impact on the education sector, with several learning institutions across the world remaining shut down for months. This study evaluated the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on education. The study employed a cross-sectional study design in which data was collected using qualitative methods from various education stakeholders as well as secondary literature. The result showed that learning has severely been affected by the strict protocols adopted by various governments in response to COVID-19 pandemic. The major responses to COVID-19 like closing up schools have left most learners hopeless as they cannot afford the recommended online learning. The major responses to COVID-19 at the few operating schools include: wearing masks, hand sanitization, regular hand washing, constant temperature check for both staff and learners, and lastly change on the sitting arrangements as students are required to maintain a social distance of at least 1.5 meters. Moreover, closure of schools has also had a severe impact on the co-curricular activities that are always undertaken within the academic institutions like athletics, drama and ball games. Measures should be put in place by various governments to ensure that all learners have access to equitable, quality and inclusive forms of education during the present COVID-19 pandemic.</span></p>

The network capability to accomplish its functions in a timely fashion under failures and attacks is known as survivability. Ad hoc routing protocols have been studied and extended to various domains, such as Intelligent Transport Systems (ITSs), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), underwater acoustic networks, and Internet of Things (IoT) focusing on different aspects, such as security, QoS, energy. The existing solutions proposed in this domain incur substantial overhead and eventually become burden on the network, especially when there are fewer attacks or no attack at all. There is a need that the effectiveness of these routing protocols be analyzed in the presence of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks without any intrusion detection or prevention system. This will enable us to establish and identify the inherently stable routing protocols that are capable to survive longer in the presence of these attacks. This work presents a DoS attack case study to perform theoretical analysis of survivability on node and network level in the presence of DoS attacks. We evaluate the performance of reactive and proactive routing protocols and analyse their survivability. For experimentation, we use NS-2 simulator without detection or prevention capabilities. Results show that proactive protocols perform better in terms of throughput, overhead and packet drop.

The importance of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) increases due to deployment for geographical, environmental and surveillance purpose in war fields. WSN facing several challenges due to its complex nature including key problems, such as routing and medium access control protocols. Several approaches were proposed for the performance evaluation of WSN on the basis of these issues due to the fact that MAC layer access protocols have a great impact on the performance of WSN. In this paper, we investigated the performance evaluation of three well known MAC Access protocols, i.e. sensor medium access control protocol (SMAC), carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA), and time division multiple access (TDMA) over adhoc on demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol. The number of simulation scenarios were carried out by using NS-2, the simulation metrics used are throughput, end-to-end delay and energy consumed. Simulation results showed that SMAC out perform CSMA/CA and TDMA by consuming less energy, less end to end delay and high throughput due to contention based approach to access the medium for transmission.
