Abstract:Desktop Cloud computing is the idea of benefiting from computing resources around us to build a Cloud system in order to have better usage of these resources instead of them being idle. However, such resources are prone to failure at any given time without prior knowledge. Such failure events have a can negative impact on the outcome of a Desktop Cloud system. This paper proposes metrics that can evaluate the behaviour of Virtual Machine (VM) allocation mechanisms in the presence of node failures. The metrics are throughput, power consumption and availability. Three VM allocation mechanisms (Greedy, FCFS and RoundRobin mechanisms) are evaluated using the given metrics.

This paper discusses the different approaches to performance analysis of cloud computing platforms and proposes a queuing model for performance analysis of a web application. In this model, the cloud computing platform is modeled as multiple queues and the virtual machines VMs are modeled as service centers. In this model, the instances act as virtual machines and VMs run on servers, its number decided a priori before running an application. The performance of closed jobs executing on cloud computing platform was analyzed for different distributions. The model is based on the Reserved Instances behavior of applications on Amazon EC2.

Cloud computing(cloud) is a good candidate for complementing weaknesses of logistics information systems(heterogeneous processes not able to be standardized, geographically scattered and seamed connectivity, etc.) and for supporting innovative activities of logistics. In this sense, we aimed to study deployment strategies of clouds specified in the logistics industry. To achieve our research goal, we reviewed up-to-date logistics clouds researches and analysis of clouds; platforms and deployment strategies for logistics. This study contributes to follow-up researches for establishing a development direction of logistics specific clouds and developing more concrete clouds for logistics.
