Performance assessment of fragrance finished cotton with cyclodextrin assisted anchoring hosts

Abstract: Infusion of textiles with aromatic essential oils makes them immense value enriched for the aesthetic dominated fashion consumers to attain cosmeto-therapeutic and medicinal benefits. However, longevity of aroma on the textile with the time passage and subsequent launderings is a major concern for researchers and consumers too. In this work, essential oils of Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavender, Jasmine, Clove and Cedarwood were applied directly on cotton as well as with anchoring hosts as cyclodextrin in native… Show more

“…Through a simple acidic or alkaline impregnation, followed by the curing or exhaustion processes, it is possible to achieve suitable fixation yield of MCT-β-CD on cellulose despite the secondary reaction of hydrolysis. Therefore, this chemical strategy is common to functionalize cotton [40]. However, by our knowledge, no data was available about the application of MCT-β-CD and mPCM together.…”

“…FTIR revealed the appearance of bands at 2920, 2778 cm of chlorine atom in the grafting process of MCT-β-CD on cotton (Fig. 1b) as discussed in an elaborated manner in our previous publication (Khanna et al 2015). MCT β-CD had shown thermal decomposition as a measure of % weight reduction in TGA results (Fig.…”

“…β-cyclodextrin and cyanuric chloride in presence of alkaline medium (Khanna et al 2015). FTIR spectroscopy (for micro structural analysis with FTIR-spectroscope), elemental analysis (for compositional analysis with elemental analyser), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA with Thermogravimetric Analyzer) and 1 H-NMR spectra (for host-guest investigation with NMR spectrometer) were used for the characterization of MCT β-CD powder.…”

“…Monochlorotriazinyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (MCT‐β‐CD), the first cyclodextrin derivative in the industrial scale, solves this problem. It was presented in 1996, possesses on average two to three monochlorotriazinyl groups on β‐CD as the reactive anchor, and can create covalent bonds with nucleophilic groups on supports . There are some reports in the literature concerning the potential of applications of these types of compound in organic reactions …”
