Performance and Emission Characteristics Analysis of Dual Fuel Compression Ignition Engine Using Natural Gas and Diesel

Abstract: The demand for higher output efficiencies, greater specific power output, increased reliability, and ever reduced emissions has been rising. One promising alternative is the use of a gaseous fuel as partial supplement to liquid fuel. In this study, the effects of diesel-natural gas substitution ratios on the engine performance parameters like brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), and gaseous emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOX), hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) were investigated… Show more

“…The effect was attributed to incomplete combustion caused by oxygen deficiency in the combustion chamber. Ahmed et al [17] reported similar results. Karagoz et al [18] obtained similar results and attributed it to the low LHV of the syngas fuel, which is considerably lower than that of diesel fuel.…”

“…CO emisyonları birden çok sebep dolayısıyla ortaya çıkan yanma ürünleridir. Yapılan bu çalışmada, %60 yük dışında tüm yüklerde silindir içerindeki sıcaklığın artan karışım oranıyla birlikte düşmesinin daha az oksitlenmeye sebep olduğu ve bunun bir sonucu olarak da CO oranını arttırdığı düşünülmektedir [33,34]. Düşük yanma sıcaklığı CO oranlarının artmasına sebep olmuştur.…”

“…Dual-fuel engines running natural gas and diesel are currently the subject of numerous studies. The efficient and ecological indicators of compression-ignition engines adapted to run simultaneously on gas fuel and conventional diesel fuel are determined and analysed [4,13,31,30,39]. In these studies, attention is also drawn to the course of the combustion process presented in the form of graphs of heat release rate [1,12,40,44,46].…”
