Performance analysis of high‐speed railway communication systems subjected to co‐channel interference and channel estimation errors

Abstract: The performance of high-speed railway wireless communication systems is studied in the presence of co-channel interference and imperfect channel estimation in the uplink. The authors derive exact closed-form expressions for the outage probability and investigate the impact of fading severity. New explicit expressions are derived for both the level crossing rate and average outage duration for illustrating the impact of mobile speed and channel estimation errors on the achievable system performance. “…However, it is worth noting that for most of the cell coverage, although the Doppler shift is large, its variation is so small that the Doppler shift can be estimated accurately and compensated easily according to accurate train's velocity and location information [37,63]. On the other hand, rapid Doppler transition at the cell center greatly increases the difficulty of channel estimation and Doppler shift estimation, which will cause irrecoverable channel estimation error and severe ICI [14,64]. The channel uncertainty and imperfection in the physical layer bring a big challenge to RRM design in the upper layers.…”

“…Since the optimization problem is NP-hard, an alternative heuristic resource allocation scheme is proposed and then the optimal power is determined to maximize the system sum throughput. In addition, the performance analysis of HSR wireless communications is studied in [64] to better understand the effect of the inter-link interference.…”

“…[11,22], is used to pre-compensate the received signal before further processing is executed. Although the Doppler shift can be obtained with high accuracy in HSR due to its predictable and repetitive movement [1,23,24], assuming the measured Doppler shift or other channel-related parameter as erroneous and assessing its impact on the HSR system performance is of practical interest [7,13,24,25].…”
