To guarantee shipping safety, it is crucial to build a reliable wireless communication network. This study presents characteristic analysis of shipping wireless channel based on measurements. The authors conduct five channel measurements for two important water mobile communications, covering inland river and sea scenarios. Channel characteristics, e.g. power delay profile, amplitude distribution, delay spread and shadow fading, are extracted and compared for the two scenarios. It is found that the main difference between the them lies in more obstacles and scatterers in inland river propagation environment. The results show that more obstacles and scatterers can result in richer multipath effect and larger shadow fading decorrelation distance. A triple Gaussian mixture distribution (TGMD) is proposed to characterize the wireless channel with LOS, obstructed LOS and non‐LOS situations in the practical propagation. To verify the effectiveness of TGMD, the goodness of fit between measurement and analysis results in terms of Rician K‐factor, root mean square (RMS) delay spread and RMS Doppler spread is calculated. Furthermore, the cross‐correlation among shadow fading, Rician K‐factor and RMS delay spread are studied. Larger cross‐correlation can be found in inland river and sea than vehicular communication due to the open propagation environment.

Internet of things (IoT) aims at bringing together large business enterprise solutions and architectures for handling the huge amount of data generated by millions of devices. For this aim, IoT is necessary to connect various devices and provide a common platform for storage and retrieval of information without fail. However, the success of IoT depends on the novelty of network and its capability in sustaining the increasing demand by users. In this paper, a self-aware communication architecture (SACA) is proposed for sustainable networking over IoT devices. The proposed approach employs the concept of mobile fog servers which make relay using the train and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) networks. The problem is presented based on Wald’s maximum model, which is resolved by the application of a distributed node management (DNM) system and state dependency formulations. The proposed approach is capable of providing prolonged connectivity by increasing the network reliability and sustainability even in the case of failures. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through numerical and network simulations in terms of significant gains attained with lesser delay and fewer packet losses. The proposed approach is also evaluated against Sybil, wormhole, and DDoS attacks for analyzing its sustainability and probability of connectivity in unfavorable conditions.

Wireless channel modeling is regarded as a pivotal research topic, since the analysis and evaluation of the wireless communication system requires a reliable model of the channel impulse response (CIR). This paper presents a novel and practical study on the position-based radio propagation channel for high-speed vactrains in the vacuum tube scenarios using the propagation graph channel modeling theory. Based on the Lambertian scattering pattern, the propagation graph channel modeling method considers the diffusion effect of radio waves. A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wideband system channel is emulated for obtaining the virtual channel data. During the emulation process, the line-of-sight (LoS), single-bounced and double-bounced components are considered to yield the virtual CIR. Then, small-scale fading properties such as K factor, time delay spread (DS), and Doppler frequency feature are parameterized particularly, which presents dynamic variances at different train locations. Moreover, the simulation performance analysis of the MIMO system focuses on the ergodic capacity and the singular value spread (SVS). The corresponding results indicate a MIMO capacity performance degradation in this scenario. The proposed model can facilitate the reliable simulation and evaluation of MIMO systems for the high-speed vactrains in the vacuum tube scenarios.
