Performance analysis of different arbitration algorithms of the AMBA AHB bus

Abstract: Bus performances are extremely important in a platform-based design. System Level analysis of bus performances gives important information for the analysis and choice between different architectures driven by functional, timing and power constraints of the System-on-Chip. This paper presents the effect of different arbitration algorithms and bus usage methodologies on the bus AMBA AHB performances in terms of effective throughput and power dissipation. SystemC and VHDL models have been developed and simulation… Show more

“…In AMBA, AXI and AHB are two kinds of high-performance protocols usually used in high-speed applications, while APB protocol is a low-speed and low-power one usually used in the connection with peripherals. In RTBus, due to the timeliness required by real-time tasks, AXI is used in the channels among high-performance devices, while APB is adopted for the transmission involving low-speed devices and peripherals to save power and area [4].…”

“…The arbiter allows the master the authority of using a bus depending on the priority scheme. [7] The decoder determines which IP will be selected. The two multiplexers 'Master2Slave' and 'Slave2Master' select the signals from the master and slave that are allowed by the arbiter and send them to the bus.…”
