Rio Grande do Sul (RS) is the second highest state with respect to sporotrichosis incidence in Brazil, with most cases occurring in the southern region. Given the importance of epidemiologic monitoring in hyperendemic areas, this study evaluated the spatial, geographical and annual sporotrichosis incidence over a period of 7 years in the southern region of RS, as well as the disease evolution over the last two decades. Data were collected from the Mycology Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FAMED-FURG) and from the Centre for Zoonosis Control (CZC) of the Prefeitura Municipal of Pelotas city. All feline cases of sporotrichosis diagnosed between 2010 and 2016 were included and analysed. In addition, cases of human and canine sporotrichosis were accounted for. Over the 7-year period (2010-2016), 372 feline, 34 canine and 83 human cases of sporotrichosis were diagnosed, being the mean number of cases/year 18.33 in the first 3 years of the study and 116.33 in the last 3 years. Cases were distributed among 34 and 28 neighbourhoods in Rio Grande and Pelotas city, respectively. Socioeconomic features reinforced the result that the disease is already spreading across a major part of the southern region. In addition, the study demonstrated the intensification and expansion of the high endemicity areas. Therefore, given that the number of feline sporotrichosis cases in southern RS reached alarming proportions, we suggested that this region will promptly face an epidemic of sporotrichosis if no preventive or control measures are undertaken.

Forensic veterinary pathology is essential to identify the cause of death of animals with suspicion of abuse, neglect, exogenous intoxication, medical errors, if the lesions were accidental or ante-mortem or in cases where the animal’s identity is needed. It involves several areas that can be used to determine the cause of death in animals, such as traumatology, entomology and toxicology. This work aims to determine the main lesions found in judicial necropsies of animals from the metropolitan region of Belém, qualifying the most prevalent lesions according to the classification in forensic traumatology. The necropsy was performed according to the animal species and using the method of Ghon. The animals were grouping by specie, sex, race and age and it was made a segmentation by vulnerable energy. 33 judicial necropsies (9.06%) were performed between January 2018 and December 2019, including 22 canines (66.7%), seven felines (21.2%), two farm animals (6.1%) and two wild animals (6.1%). Regarding the sex of the animals, in general, 51.51% were males and 45.45% were females. Young dogs and cats represented the highest percentage of cases. Mixed breed dogs were the most prevalent, with 31.8%. In all species, the most prevalent energy was chemical energy, totalling 18 cases. Second, with six cases, mechanical trauma with only canines and felines, in which, only in three were evident the blunt injury. In only one case, the suspicion was of biodynamic energy, with suggestive findings. In conclusion, the forensic necropsy associated with the animal’s history is capable of providing relevant information which assists the pathologist in the search for injuries, its identification and interpretation.

Dentre os procedimentos laboratoriais, há a classificação em etapas que consistem na pré análise, análise e pós análise. A fase pré-analítica contempla desde a indicação do exame até o momento da realização da análise da amostra, e representa a fase em que ocorrem os maiores erros laboratoriais e os que mais influenciam nos resultados, que vão desde as condições de estresse do paciente até falhas no transporte da amostra após a coleta. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi fazer um levantamento de dados a respeito dos principais erros cometidos no Distrito Federal (DF) na fase pré-analítica dos exames laboratoriais de gatos domésticos através de um estudo retrospectivo descritivo qualitativo. Foram analisados 1.433 exames de gatos domésticos, obtidos junto a empresa parceira de análises laboratoriais, quanto ao perfil dos pacientes e os resultados dos hemogramas, leucogramas e bioquímicos. Com os dados, foram realizados cálculos de prevalência através dos testes Qui-quadrado com correção de Yates e coeficiente de correlação de Pearson para traçar a associação entre os resultados e o sexo e/ou idade dos pacientes, bem como as alterações encontradas que podem ser causadas por erros pré-analíticos. Dentre as alterações, a agregação plaquetária foi a mais encontrada, estando presente em 37,6% dos exames, seguida do plasma hemolisado, com 17,2% de presença. Não foram encontradas correlações entre a raça dos pacientes e a agregação plaquetária, ou do plasma hemolisado com o sexo ou raça dos animais; porém sugere-se uma correlação importante entre o sexo dos animais e a agregação plaquetária.
