The COVID-19 pandemic has made big changes to the human life sector. In order to break the chain of this virus, the government has issued a policy to maintain social distance and all activities must be carried out at home. The purpose of this research is to find out what roles students can play in society as agents of change during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the issues raised in this research are; what is the role of students as agents of change in supporting learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research resulted in a conclusion that the role of Indonesian students as Agents of Change in the field of education during the COVID-19 pandemic includes; become a facilitator in learning activities, create fun learning, provide education about healthy lifestyles, and impart skills to children.

A Picture of Chemistry: A Case Study from High Schools (Hakkari Sample)

This research aims to draw a picture of chemistry lessons based on students’ opinions in Hakkari, Turkey. The research design is a case study. An open-ended qualitative questionnaire consisting of 15 questions was used. The questionnaire was applied to 463 tenth- and eleventh-grade students studying at high schools in Hakkari. The data obtained were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative methods: content analysis, correlation tests, and chi-square tests. As a result, two categories were found: the factors affecting chemistry teaching and the effect of chemistry on students’ daily and future lives. According to this, students’ interest in chemistry is a factor in learning chemistry, the teaching method used by the teacher is an essential factor for chemistry, and having enough knowledge of chemistry affects achievement in other courses. A significant difference was found between female and male students choosing chemistry in their future careers, and the results were in favor of male students. On the contrary, female students thought that chemistry would be more permanent than males thought in their lives. The activities used in chemistry lessons, teachers’ attitudes in the classroom, and the use of chemistry examples in daily life are effective for learning chemistry and choosing chemistry for a future career.

Teachers’ preferences of teaching primary physical education: curriculum preferences

Background and Study Aim. Physical education teachers play an important role in helping students to understand the importance of physical activity. By maximizing physical activity time in physical education, physical education teachers can influence physical activity needs of students. The present study was aimed at analysing and comparing teachers’ preferences of teaching primary physical education. Material and Methods. Survey instrument (teachers’ preferences) was carried out five months (May – September, 2022) through an intentional sampling with survey group size of 1300 physical education teachers of primary education: (i) Preschool and elementary pedagogy (50.76%, n = 660), (ii) Related pedagogy (49.24%, n = 640). Pearson correlation coefficient (r), chi-square test (χ2) (inferential) and descriptive statistics were used to analyse and compare the data. Results. Physical education is often viewed as a marginal subject within the curriculum, however after analysing the data, on average, 63.54% (n = 826) of survey group believes that physical education is just as important as any other school subject (p ˂ .01). According to 52% (n = 676) of survey group, games are popular teaching activity in physical education (p ˂ .01). About 40.50% (n = 526) of survey group does not enjoy teaching dance in physical education (p ˂ .01). About 37.55% (n = 488) of survey group considers teaching health and fitness as demanding (p ˃ .05) and athletics and gymnastics (36.06%, n = 468) as undemanding (p ˂ .01). Conclusions. Primary physical education is an important component of curriculum and provides unique challenges for those involved with its teaching.
